Overview

The accountancy program is designed to prepare students to fulfill many types of entry-level positions found in the field of accounting. Many students who graduate with this type of Ordinary Diploma go on to work for accounting firms, businesses, governmental or not-for-profit organizations. Accountancy program' responsibilities may involve providing assistance to top level accountants and auditors by performing accounting, administrative and bookkeeping duties. Other functions could include compiling data required for management and governmental reports and processing customer invoices using various accounting software systems.

This program follows the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training. (NACTVET) based curricula.

Basic Technician Certificate In Accountancy (NTA Level 4)

Specific Objectives

The basic technician certificate in accountancy intends to enhance the provision of basic service skills that meet standards of service excellence within the field of accountancy and non- commercial sectors. Specifically, the objectives of the qualification are to:

  • Provide basic knowledge skills and values needed in the accountancy field
  • Provide basic entrepreneurial skills necessary for understanding and establishing small multifarious businesses and
  • Enable graduates to communicate effectively in their day –to-day endeavors
Admission Requirements

The minimum entry requirements to the basic technician certificate in accountancy are:

  • Possession of at least four (4) passes including passes in basic mathematics in the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or
  • Possession of the National Vocational Award (NVA) level iii (trade test I) in a relevant field and a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE)
Program Structure

The Basic Technician Certificate in Accountancy offers the learner basic knowledge and skills in bookkeeping and accounts, business mathematics communication customer care computer applications, record management, commerce and entrepreneurship.

Technician Certificate In Accountancy (NTA Level 5)

The general objective

The Technician Certificate in accountancy is a progression from NTA Level 4 to higher NTA qualification levels in the genre. The course prepares learners for Ordinary Diploma Level in accountancy. It is designed to meet the needs of learners who wish to exit for job or progress at NTA Level 6 in the field of accountancy.

Specific Objectives

The Technician Certificate in accountancy intends to enhance the provision of service skills that meet standards of service excellence within the field of accountancy and non-commercial sectors. Specifically, the objective of the qualification is to:

  • Provide knowledge, skills and value needed in accountancy field
  • Provide entrepreneurial skills necessary for understanding and establishing multifarious businesses; and
  • Enable graduates to communicate effectively in their day to day endeavors
Admission requirements

The minimum entry requirements to the Technician Certificate in Accountancy are

  • Possession of the National Technical Award (NTA) Level 4 in Accountancy and or related field from registered/recognized by NACTVET.
  • Possession of at least one (1) principle pass one (1) subsidiary in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) in the related field.
Program Structure

The Technician Certificate in Accountancy offers the leaner knowledge and skill in Bookkeeping and Accounts, Business Mathematics, Business Communication, ICT Applications, Stores Management, Accounting Principles and Practical.

Overall Structure

The whole programme has a total of seven (7) modules that will be covered in 34 weeks of study in one academic year. Our of these, 15 weeks in each semester are set aside for study and two weeks for semester examinations.

Ordinary Diploma In Accountancy (NTA Level 6)

The general objective

The ordinary Diploma in accountancy is a progression from NTA level 5 to higher NTA qualification level in the genre. The course prepares learners for Higher Diploma level in Accountancy. It is designed to meet the needs of learners who wish to exit for job or progress NTA level 7 in the field of Accountancy.

Specific Objectives

The Ordinary Diploma in Accountancy intends to enhance the provision of service skills that meet standards of services excellence within the field of accountancy and non- commercial sectors. Specifically, the objectives of the qualification are to:

  • Provide knowledge, skills and values needed in the accountancy field;
  • Provides entrepreneurial skills necessary for understanding and establishing multifarious businesses; and
  • Enable graduates to communicate effectively in their day- to-day endeavors.
Admission Requirements

The minimum entry requirements to the Basic Technician Certificate I accountancy are:

  • Possession of the National Technician Award (NTA) level 5 in accountancy and relate field: OR
  • Possession of equivalence qualification as established by the council.
Overall Structure

The whole programme has a total of ten (10) modules will be covered in 34 weeks of study in one academic year. Out of these, 15 weeks in each semester are set aside for study and two weeks for semester examinations.
