Mount Meru

National Park

Mount Meru is in Arusha National Park and is home to various wildlife, including 400 species of birds, monkeys and leopards. It is located 70 kilometers west of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park and is the ideal pre-trek to Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the second highest mountain in Tanzania and the fifth highest mountain in Africa (4,562 meters). 

Routes

The 3 to 4 day hike and trek to ascend and descend Mount Meru is spectacular. It starts in a wooden savanna where buffalo and giraffe roam the land. At 1,500 to 3,300 hikers are surrounded by montane forests full of birds and monkeys. From 3,300 to 3,900 meters the terrain is full of giant heathers, and in the final meters’ hikers enter an alpine zone.
